A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta softball team split its final Texas doubleheader last night at UT Dallas winning the first game 11-9 but dropping the second game 12-4. The Red Dragons completed its season opening trip 4-6 overall, as they head back north to New York.

The Inside Story
Sophomore
Amanda Sexton (Port Jervis/Port Jervis) doubled to right-center field to drive in classmate
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) with the game's first run in the top of the first inning. UT Dallas countered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to grab a three-run lead heading to the second.
Â
Oneonta took advantage of a couple of miscues by the Comets to plate three runs in the second inning. The big hit of the inning was a two-run double by senior
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley) that knocked in
Kristen Collins (Hicksville/Holy Trinity) and
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford) both runs unearned. The Comets posted single runs in the second and third and led 6-4 entering the fourth inning.
Â
In the fourth, an RBI single by Koch brought Del Genio across before Sabatino sent a two-run blast over the fence to give the Red Dragons a 7-6 lead. Oneonta added another run on a
Brooke Corbett (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) double drove in Sexton.
Â
Once again, UT Dallas countered to regain the lead 9-8 in the bottom of the fourth with three runs.
Â
Del Genio drove in the final three runs of the game and gave the Red Dragons to final margin of victory with a three-run homer in the top of the fifth scoring
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) and
Olivia Murray (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in front of her.
Â
Freshman
Madison Capozucca (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) picked up her first collegiate victory throwing four innings and allowing two runs and two hits.
Â
In game 2, UT Dallas jumped out to the early lead en route to winning the game in five innings. The big inning for Oneonta was the fourth when they posted all of its runs. Del Genio and Corbett each had an RBI while Koch drove in a pair of runs in the inning.
Â
