Junior
Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) and sophomores
Andres Rivera (Bronx, NY/Walton) and
Joseph Bull (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael Academy) all scored 20+ points tonight in leading the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball to an 89-77 road win against Geneseo. Oneonta shot 56 percent from the floor including 68 percent in the second half to pull away from the Knights.
Â
Three days after pouring in a collegiate best 30 points, Mackin led all scorers in the contest with 26 points that included seven, three-pointers, which tied his career high. Rivera was right behind Mackin with 25 points while Bull added 22 points. The three combined to shoot 66 percent (27-41) including 55 percent (10-18) from long range.
Â
Oneonta (10-9, 5-7 SUNYAC) totaled 15 points off turnovers, 17 second chance points and 40 points in the paint in the game. The game was tied three times while the lead changed hands nine times all in the first half. The final lead change came at the end of the opening half when Rivera made a lay up with 27 seconds left.
Â
The Red Dragons continued to hold a slim two-point lead at 47-45 around the 12-minute mark of the second half before scoring eight unanswered to create some breathing room. Senior AC Kirkwood made 1-of-2 free throws to put Oneonta's lead in double digits for the first time.
Â
Geneseo (5-14, 2-10 SUNYAC) put together a 9-4 spurt during the next two minutes to pull within five points at 59-54. The Knights would stay within the deficit for a couple more minutes before the Red Dragons began to pull away. A three by Mackin at 7:53 pushed the lead back to double digits again, which essentially closed the door for Geneseo.

Oneonta will complete its weekend road trip to the Rochester area tomorrow afternoon at Brockport beginning at 4pm.
