Volleyball's season comes to a close with SUNYAC semifinal loss to Geneseo

A Quick Look
The season came to an end for the SUNY Oneonta volleyball team Friday evening as the Red Dragons fell to top seeded Geneseo in the SUNYAC Semifinals. The Red Dragons finished their season with a record of 23-9.

The Inside Story
Oneonta took the first set 25-21 before dropping the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-23.  In the first set with the score knotted at 10-10, Oneonta get three straight points off Geneseo attack errors to go in front 13-10. After the Knights got a point back on an Abby May kill, Oneonta scored four unanswered points to go up 17-11. The first points came off kills by Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) before Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) tallied back-to-back service aces.

With Oneonta holding an 18-12 lead, Geneseo climbed back into the set with a 5-1 run. After the two teams went back and forth on the next four points, two straight attack errors by Geneseo gave Oneonta a 23-19 lead. Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) pulled the Red Dragons up to the match point with a kill before the Knights committed another attack error to end the set.

Just the Stats
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) led Oneonta with eight kills apiece while Kathryn Johnston (Altamont/Guilderland) finished with seven. Senior Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) added 30 more assists to her record-breaking total as she finished her career with 3,598. Classmate Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) finished with a team-high 14 digs.
