Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer clipped by Buffalo State

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team fell at home today to Buffalo State 2-1.  The loss dropped the Red Dragons to 4-3-3 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC while also ending its modest unbeaten streak at four games.

The Inside Story
Both teams had its share of scoring chances throughout the first half of play.  Many of the shots sailed just high or were saved by the keepers.

The most dangerous opportunity came in the 32nd minute when a shot from just inside the box by Oneonta senior Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) was heading to the right corner before it was headed out by Alexis Hanson for Buffalo State (5-5, 3-1 SUNYAC) keeping the game scoreless.

Two minutes later, the Red Dragons finally broke through on a corner kick to go ahead 1-0.  Sophomore Grace Syron (East Marion/Greenport) was on the receiving end of a service from Lipshie getting her head on the ball and driving it past the Bengals keeper for her first goal of the season.

Oneonta held onto its one-goal lead heading into halftime.

The action in the second half continued to move back-and-forth although Buffalo State did appear to have the better opportunities keeping the pressure on the Oneonta defense.

The Bengals tied the score in the 68th minute on an unassisted goal by Erin Valente.  Valente controlled the ball into the box and was able to chip a shot over the head of Oneonta keeper Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) into the goal.

The Bengals continued its offensive pressure and three minutes later took the lead on Emma Boccolucci's second goal of the season.  The goal came on the third of three consecutive corner kicks where Boccolucci was able to get her head on a service from Allie Reeds and redirect the ball into the goal.

Oneonta had two more chances in the final three minutes but couldn't find the back of the goal.

Just the Stats
Buffalo State held a slight 16-14 edge in shots in the match while earning seven corner kicks to Oneonta's four.  Lepper finished the game with four saves while Bengals keeper Taylor Carillo recorded five saves.
