A Quick Look
The No. 14 nationally ranked SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 shutout win at Fredonia today.  The victory for the Red Dragons was its fourth straight and runs its overall record to 9-1 while moving to 2-0 in the SUNYAC.
 
"Today's game was a real struggle and we were fortunate to get out of there with a win," stated Head Coach Iain Byrne.  "We had a few good chances, and our freshman keeper saved us a few times, but we can't keep relying on Witman for goals."
 
The Inside Story
Junior Scott Cebollero (Commack/Commack) converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute to put Oneonta on the scoreboard early.
 
Fredonia outshot the Red Dragons 7-2 in the opening half, but keeper Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) stopped a breakaway by Jay Merlo in the 27^th minute to preserve the lead.  Hanna would stymie Merlo again in the 81^st minute.
 
Hanna would collect three saves in the first half and five overall to run his record to 5-0.
 
Senior Witman Hernandez (Huntington/Walt Whitman) added his 11^th goal of the season in the 88^th minute with a header off a pass from sophomore Matt Howe (Hopewell Junction/John Jay).
 
Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the game with a 13-9 edge in shots including 11-2 in the second half.
 
What's Next
Oneonta will stay in the western part of the state for a game with Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1pm.
