The No. 14 nationally ranked SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 shutout win at Fredonia today. The victory for the Red Dragons was its fourth straight and runs its overall record to 9-1 while moving to 2-0 in the SUNYAC.

"Today's game was a real struggle and we were fortunate to get out of there with a win," stated Head Coach
Iain Byrne. "We had a few good chances, and our freshman keeper saved us a few times, but we can't keep relying on Witman for goals."

Junior
Scott Cebollero (Commack/Commack) converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute to put Oneonta on the scoreboard early.

Fredonia outshot the Red Dragons 7-2 in the opening half, but keeper
Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) stopped a breakaway by Jay Merlo in the 27
th minute to preserve the lead. Hanna would stymie Merlo again in the 81
st minute.

Hanna would collect three saves in the first half and five overall to run his record to 5-0.

Witman Hernandez (Huntington/Walt Whitman) added his 11
th goal of the season in the 88
th minute with a header off a pass from sophomore
Matt Howe (Hopewell Junction/John Jay).

Oneonta finished the game with a 13-9 edge in shots including 11-2 in the second half.

Oneonta will stay in the western part of the state for a game with Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1pm.
