Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer closes out regular season

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team fell at home to Wilkes University today 1-0 in its regular season finale.  The Colonels scored its goal in the 33rd minute of the match and made it stick enroute to the shutout.

The Inside Story
Wilkes (7-7-1) capitalized on a loose ball inside the box for its lone score.  Tatiana Mancera collected the loose ball and fired a shot to the lower left corner past a diving keeper.  It was Mancera's second goal of the season.

Oneonta (6-9-3) did have some scoring chances in the second half but were unable to punch one home.  Senior Christina Kornfeld (Mount Sinai/Miller Place) broke behind the defense and got off a high shot that the Wilkes keeper pushed over the crossbar.  Freshman Kelsey Smith (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) had a chance in the 73rd minute that was stopped.  The Red Dragons had one last flurry in front of the goal in the 78th minute but had one shot blocked and one shot saved, and another shot go wide on a corner kick.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the contest with a 14-11 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.  Both teams played two keepers in the match with the Wilkes's tandem compiling four saves and the Oneonta duo of Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) and Celeste Trevellini (Queens/World Journalism Prep) combining to make six saves.

What's Next
Oneonta travels to Brockport this Saturday for an opening round game in the 2019 SUNYAC tournament beginning at 1pm.  The winner will advance to the semifinals next Wednesday at SUNY Cortland.
