Oswego, NY - In their first dual meet of the season the SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving squad was bested by their SUNYAC foes from Oswego with a combined score of 133-106.
Some highlights for the women though happened in the 200 yard medley relay when sophomore Erin Clun, senior
Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern), senior Nicole Lapinksi and senior
Ally Federman (Delmar/Bethlehem) were victorious out swimming their Laker opponents with a time of 1:56.16 more than three-seconds ahead of the Laker runner-ups. Later Carey secured another win in the 200 yard individual medley touching the wall with a time of 2:20.69 edging her opponent from Oswego by just .15 seconds. Lappinski turned in a win of her own as she was victorious in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.97 more than .5 seconds ahead of the trailer from the Lakers.
Later on in the meet the 100 yard backstroke was contested and Clune got a victory for the Red Dragons as she triumphed with a score of 1:03.06 with her teammate freshmen
Kayla Keddy (Queensbury/Queensbury) right on her heels taking the runner-up position under three-seconds behind.
In the 500 yard freestyle the Red Dragons found a winner when junior
Katherine London (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy) touched in with a time of 5:42.48 just under seven seconds ahead of the Lakers runner-up. Â
A very notable and final highlight for the Oneonta women occurred in the 100 yard breast stroke. Carey got back to the winner's circle with a time of 1:11.66 with her teammates right behind as freshman
Emily Abrams (Fort Plain/Fort Plain) and freshman
Samantha Sanchez (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) took second and third.
The Red Dragon's swimming and diving squad next swim against RPI and the College of St. Rose on Sunday, November 10th in Troy, NY beginning at 1 PM.
