Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer clipped in overtime at Potsdam

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team was clipped 3-2 in double overtime today at SUNY Potsdam.  The loss for the Red Dragons puts them in a must win for its game at Plattsburgh tomorrow to put themselves in the playoff picture.  Oneonta (5-8-3, 3-5-0 SUNYAC) is currently sitting in eighth place but only two points out of the final playoff spot.  A win against Plattsburgh would give them 12 points and put them in the sixth spot if Fredonia and Potsdam lose tomorrow.

The Inside Story
Lexi Dean scored an unassisted goal in the 13th minute to give Potsdam (7-8-1, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) an early lead.  Despite outshooting the Bears 9-4 in the opening half, the hosts took its one-goal advantage into the break.

The Red Dragons struck for a pair of goals less than two minutes apart early in the second half to grab a 2-1 lead.  Freshman Joie Tortorice (Melville/Walt Whitman) tied the game in the 56th minute off an assist by senior Christina Kornfeld (Mount Sinai/Miller Place).  Kornfeld gave Oneonta its lead in the 58th minute scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

The Bears knotted the score in the 74th minute when Dean notched her second of the game with the assist going to Maeve Morrissey.

Oneonta's last scoring opportunity came in the 85th minute by freshman Hannah Kelly (Monroe/Monroe Woodbury) but was denied.  One minute later, Potsdam got its final chance on a Dean shot that went wide of the goal.

The Red Dragons recorded three shots to Potsdam's one in the first overtime period.  The Bears ended the game in the 105th minute on a goal by Mackenzie Bowie.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the match with a 21-11 shot advantage while also earning 11 corner kicks to only five for Potsdam.  Winning keeper Delphine Leonard made seven saves in the game while Oneonta keeper Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) collected three saves.
