Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hernandez does it again in leading No. 11 men's soccer

Senior nets pair in 2-1 win at Oswego

A Quick Look
SUNY Oneonta senior Witman Hernandez (Huntington/Walt Whitman) is on repeat coming through once again to lead the No. 11 Red Dragons to a 2-1 victory at Oswego State today in double overtime.  The win for Oneonta keeps them undefeated in the SUNYAC at 4-0 while pushing its overall record to 11-1.

"Another great road win in the conference," said Head Coach Iain Byrne.  "We were forced into a few changes today but the replacements stepped up.  My budget for Witman's Christmas present just went up again."

The Inside Story
The two teams played to a scoreless opening half with Oneonta holding a slight 7-4 advantage in shots.

Oneonta scored first at 63:53 when the leading scorer in the SUNYAC, Witman Hernandez (Huntington/Walt Whitman), was able to dribble right in the box before switching a shot back left for his 12th tally of the year.

Trailing 1-0 with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation, Oswego was awarded a free kick just inside the midfield line.  Sophomore Caleb Munski booted a ball into the right side of the box and Jack Van Pelt fought for a header. He eventually collected a loose ball and pushed a shot by a diving Oneonta keeper.

After a scoreless 10-minute first overtime period, the Red Dragons' Hernandez was at it again. He scored at 3:24 off a pass from Matt Howe (Hopewell Junction/John Jay), who completed a two-man transition down the far sideline from Oneonta's defensive half of the field.

Just the Stats
The Red Dragons finished the match outshooting the Lakers 21-6 including 5-0 during the extra periods.  Oneonta freshman keeper Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) remained undefeated for the season recording one save to move to 6-0.  Laker keeper Brian Terra made five saves in the loss.

What's Next
Oneonta will play at Rival SUNY Cortland tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1pm.
