The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team pressed late, but a big three-pointer by Kelsey Poplawski with the shot clock running down sealed a 56-48 win for the visiting nationally ranked Knights of SUNY Geneseo.

Tonight's matchup was between the top two teams in the SUNYAC and played that way throughout. Geneseo (12-0, 6-0 SUNYAC) had the advantage in the third period creating a 44-35 cushion entering the final period. Oneonta (10-2, 4-1 SUNYAC) scored 11 unanswered during a three-minute stretch to cut its deficit to just five points with 2:21 remaining.

With the shot clock at 1-second on Geneseo's next possession, Poplawski made a long three to push its lead back to eight points and never were challenged again.

Sophomore
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) came off the bench to score a collegiate best 13 points to lead Oneonta. Senior
Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy) added 10 points.

The Knights had one player in double figures tonight with Nicole Kaczmarczyk scoring 12 points off the bench.

Geneseo held a slight 39-36 advantage in rebounding led by guard Lindsay Halpin's nine boards. Junior
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) led the Red Dragons with 12 rebounds including four on the offensive end.

Geneseo led at every quarter including 18-15 at the end of the first period and 30-25 at halftime. Back-to-Back threes by junior
Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) got the Red Dragons out to an early 6-4 lead. Another trey by Allrich gave Oneonta its last lead at 13-12.

Oneonta will be home again tomorrow when they host Brockport for a 2pm matinee.
