Senior Jessica Downin and

Â
Yesterday versus Cortland, Oneonta came up on the short end of a 1-0 score. The rival Red Dragons made an early goal stand up while holding off a relentless attack in the second half by Oneonta.
Â
Cortland started the game quickly, nearly taking the lead in the opening minute. Freshman Jaden Galluzzo ran onto a cross from freshman Hillaria Hernandez deep on the left side of the box and sent a shot toward the upper left corner. Krom made the initial save, and the ball hit off the crossbar. Krom tried to gain control, but the ball hit the post and was eventually cleared away.
Â
In the second half, Oneonta generated constant pressure, creating three excellent chances to tie the score. In the 48th minute, Downin stole the ball, carried down the right side into the box and took an uncontested shot that the Cortland keeper charged out to deny. In the 59th minute, senior
Julie Steinhauer (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) had her shot from the right side punched over the top by the keeper. Steinhauer had another chance in the 84th minute, but her shot on a loose ball barely went wide left.
Â
A quick turnaround for Oneonta, as they return home for a night game on Tuesday night against SUNY Poly beginning at 7pm.
