Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) reached on a throwing error, which allowed freshman
Kristen Collins (Hicksville/Holy Trinity) to score the winning run in the bottom of the 11
th inning against Oswego today in their opening game of the SUNYAC Tournament. Oneonta (20-13) will face rival SUNY Cortland tomorrow at 11am at SUNY Geneseo this year's host. Cortland defeated Plattsburgh in its opener today 7-2.

The Red Dragons scored its run without an out being recorded in the bottom of the 11
th. Collins reached with a leadoff bunt single before moving to second on a single to left field by junior
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford). Collins then came around to score on the throwing error that got past the first baseman.

Oneonta trailed Oswego (19-14) 2-0 entering the home half of the sixth inning. After a fly out by Collins, Del Genio bunted for a hit and reached first base. Ruiz then reached on a fielder's choice, but on the play Del Genio was safe at second on an errand throw by the shortstop. With two runners on, junior
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley) cracked a double to the gap in right center field scoring both Del Genio and Ruiz to tie the game.

Neither team could generate any threat to score in the four innings leading up to the 11
th. Oneonta's
Alyssa Bluethgen (Commack/Commack) and Oswego's Rebecca Vilchez were on their game. Vilchez was the tough luck loser holding the Red Dragons to five hits in the game striking out a pair. Bluethgen won for the eighth time in her last nine starts striking out two batters in her 11 innings of work.

Oswego scored single runs in the second and third innings. Madelena Wrubel collected four of the nine hits for the Lakers in the contest.
