Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming & diving team competed in its final home meet of the season today and were defeated by their rivals from SUNY Cortland in the Chase PE Pool.
There were several noteworthy highlights for Oneonta beginning with the 200 yard medley relay as senior
Hannah Dari (Pomona/Clarkstown South), sophomore
Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern), junior
Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School) and freshman
Katherine London (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy) got things going earning top honors with a time of 1:54.90 less than one second ahead of the Cortland runner-up squad. Individually, London took home a victory in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.12 only .12 ahead of the Cortland second place finisher. She got another win in the 500 yard freestyle earning a victors position for the third time today with a time of 5:31.35 almost a full five-seconds ahead of the Cortland foe.
In the 200 yard butterfly, Llewellyn took an individual win with a time of 56.12 almost two seconds ahead of the Cortland competitor. Llewellyn got her third win on the afternoon as she got back in the winners-circle timing in at 1:00.76 in the 100 yard butterfly almost two-seconds ahead of the Cortland swimmer.
Later, Dari would not be outdone by her teammates as she earned her second victory against Cortland touching the wall in the 400 yard individual medley at 4:48.50 with an impressive nine-second gap from the Cortland combatant.
Another noteworthy win came from diver freshman
Samantha Giler (Chester/Monroe-Woodbury) as she took first place in the one-meter diving event.
Next up for the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons is to prepare for the conference championships which will be held at Erie Community College beginning Thursday, February 22nd.
