Senior Madeline Frank leads late surge for women's basketball's win at Potsdam

Senior Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) scored seven of her 11 points during the final 1:05 of the fourth quarter to help lift the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team to a 68-62 win at SUNY Potsdam tonight in SUNYAC action.  Frank drained a three-pointer at 1:05 to tie the score at 62 apiece before adding another jumper and a pair of free throws, as Oneonta (5-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) scored the game's final nine points.
 
A layup by junior Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) early in the fourth quarter gave the Red Dragons its largest lead of seven points.  Potsdam (3-4, 0-1 SUNYAC) countered with a 13-6 run to knot the game at 57 all with 5:32 remaining.  A three-pointer by Dyamon Hunter and a jumper by Devyn Elliott capped five unanswered for the Bears.
 
An old fashioned three-point play by Elliott broke a 59-59 tie while giving Potsdam its final lead and points of the game.
 
Frank was joined in double figures tonight by senior Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy) (17 points) and junior Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) (14 points).  Frank also grabbed a game high 11 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season.  As a team, Oneonta collected 41 rebounds including 19 on the offensive end that led to 14 second chance points.
 
The Red Dragons forced 17 Potsdam turnovers and turned them into 17 points.
 
The two teams took turns with the lead in the opening quarter until Potsdam opened up a five-point lead late.  A jumper by Amalbert brought the Red Dragons to within three points at 18-15 at the close of the quarter.
 
The Red Dragons battled to grab a lead early in the second quarter before Potsdam turned the table midway through the stanza building another five-point lead with just under three minutes to go.  A late 6-2 spurt by Oneonta brought them closer entering halftime, as the Bears held a slim 34-33 lead.
 
Hunter led Potsdam with 17 points followed by Riley Luckie who scored 16 points and Elliott who added 13 points.
 
Oneonta will play at Plattsburgh tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2pm.
