Women's basketball pulls away in the second half enroute to win at Plattsburgh

Corso leads three players in double figures with 17 points

Junior Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) scored a game high 17 points in leading the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball to a comfortable 72-57 win at Plattsburgh today in SUNYAC action.  Oneonta (6-1, 2-0 SUNYAC) pulled away in the third quarter outscoring Plattsburgh (3-3, 0-2 SUNYAC) 19-11.
 
The Red Dragons shot a season high 53 percent from the field including 73 percent in the first quarter where they held a 17-15 lead.  Oneonta dominated in the paint outscoring the Cardinals 48-22 while also holding a 15-4 advantage on the fast break.
 
Corso made 7-10 shots from the field in the game and converted 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.  Classmate Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) scored 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting while also grabbing seven boards.  Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) added 12 points today, as the third player in double figures.
 
Plattsburgh jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the contest before Oneonta stormed back with a 9-2 burst to grab its first lead of the game.  Amalbert capped the run with a three-pointer.
 
The Cardinals scored the first five points of the second quarter to take the lead back at 20-17.  A three by Taylor Durnin and a layup from Theresa Quinn accounted for the scoring.  Plattsburgh continued to lead despite Oneonta tying the score four times during the quarter.  Finally, a trey by senior Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy) put Oneonta back on top briefly at 31-30.  After a pair of free throws by Kayla Doody, the Red Dragons scored the final five points of the quarter to grab a 36-32 lead at the break.
 
Oneonta asserted control in the third quarter building its lead to 15 points midway through the stanza.  Five of Oneonta's seven baskets were layups, as they dominated inside.
 
Carrying a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter, Oneonta continued to pull away bulging its advantage to as many as 18 points with under five minutes remaining in the game.
 
Oneonta will be in action again next Saturday when they travel to New Paltz for an early season test in the conference.  Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 2pm.
