Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball tripped up by Harwtick

Sophomore Pat Garey scored a game high 18 points tonight to lead the visiting Hartwick Hawks to an 83-72 victory against host SUNY Oneonta.  The win for the Hawks evened its overall record at 3-3 while the loss for the Red Dragons was its first of the season dropping them to 3-1.

The difference in tonight's result proved to be from long distance and off the bench for the Hawks.  Hartwick connected on 13-of-26 from behind the arc while Oneonta managed only 4-of-21 from distance.  Kyle Bradshaw was the leader for the Hawks making four shots from three-point land.  He finished the game with 14 points.

Hartwick's bench outscored the Oneonta reserves 43-19 led by sophomore Tommy Kelly who scored 15 points in 17 minutes of action.

The Red Dragons had four players reach double figures in the game led by junior Harrison Deegan's (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) 16 points.  Classmates Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) and Ian Schultz (Clifton Park, NY/CBA) added 14 points and 12 points respectively while sophomore Andres Rivera (Bronx, NY/Walton) contributed 11 points off the bench.

Oneonta jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the contest hitting five of its first seven shots.  The Hawks finally broke the drought on a three from senior Brandon LaForest.  A 10-3 spurt by Hartwick capped by a three-pointer by Bradshaw gave the Hawks its first lead of the game 13-12.

Another 8-2 run by the Hawks pushed its lead to 21-14 midway through the first half.  With just over seven minutes remaining, Hartwick grabbed its largest of 11 points before Oneonta countered with six unanswered to pull within five points.

The two teams exchanged runs before the end of the half with Hartwick taking a 43-33 lead into the break.

The Hawks maintained its double-digit lead for most of the second half before a late surge by Oneonta got them to within five points one last time with just over four minutes to go in the game.  With two minutes to go, the Hawks pushed its lead back to double digits.

Oneonta opens its SUNYAC portion of the schedule this weekend when they travel to Potsdam and Plattsburgh on Friday and Saturday.
