The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team opened its 2018-19 season tonight at home with a lopsided 60-33 victory against the visiting Skidmore College Thoroughbreds. The Red Dragons broke open the game in the middle two quarters outscoring Skidmore (0-2) 38-11.

Oneonta shot 42 percent from the floor for the game, but was at 55 percent through the first half taking a 31-19 lead at halftime. Junior
Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) led the Red Dragons with eight points.

Oneonta took advantage of a cold-shooting third quarter for Skidmore putting together a 20-2 score to increase its halftime lead to 51-21 heading into the final quarter. The Thoroughbreds made only 1-of-14 shots in the quarter including 0-of-6 from behind the arc.

Eleven of the 13 players that saw time tonight for Oneonta registered at least one point including freshmen
Brittany Claud (West Babylon/West Babylon) and
Kristina Krslovic (Queens/Monsignor McClancy) who scored two points and four points respectively in their collegiate debuts.

Junior
Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) finished the game as the high scorer for the Red Dragons adding five points to her six first half points to give her 11. Amalbert ended the contest with 10 points. Senior
Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) led the squad with 10 boards.

Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) and sophomore
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) each recorded three blocks while combining for 10 points.

The lone bright spot for the Thoroughbreds was 23 offensive rebounds. Unfortunately, they only converted them into seven second chance points. Taylor Ong led all players with 12 rebounds and Toyin Koleoso added 11 boards off the bench.

Oneonta will travel to Williamstown, MA this weekend to play in the Williams College Tip-off tournament. The Red Dragons will face Salem State College on Friday night and host Williams on Saturday afternoon.
