Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer posts 3-0 shutout against Geneseo

Three different SUNY Oneonta players scored goals today in a 3-0 blanking of SUNY Geneseo on the road in SUNYAC action.  The win for Oneonta raised its overall record to 7-3-2 and 4-1 in conference play while the loss dropped the Knights to 3-5-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the SUNYAC.

"It was a good performance today," said Head Coach Iain Byrne.  "Tomorrow will be another tough conference game."

The Red Dragons dominated the Knights statistically in shots (19-9) and corner kicks (10-2).  It was on one of their eight corner kicks in the first half that they converted for a 1-0 lead.  Senior Austin Hughes (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was in the right place at the right time to intercept a failed clearing attempt by the Knights after a corner kick to put a shot into the goal off the post.

Leading by one goal, Oneonta tacked on two more goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes.

Junior Witman Hernandez (Huntington/Walt Whitman) notched his team-leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from rookie Ryan Catalano (Seaford/Island Trees).  Catalano set the play with a pass into the box from the left flank where Hernandez settled, turned on his defender and fired a shot to the back of the goal.

Sophomore Scott Cebollero (Commack/Commack) was the beneficiary of a pass from freshman Jeremy Pantoni (Goshen/Goshen), who gained the ball from a Geneseo defender on the end line before centering a pass to Cebollero who finished the play.

Senior keeper Nicholas Giordano (East Northport/Commack) picked up his third shutout of the season recording four saves in the match including three in the second half.

Oneonta faces first place Brockport on the road tomorrow beginning at 1pm.  Brockport tied New Paltz today 1-1 and sits at 4-0-1 in conference play just one point ahead of Oneonta.
