Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer nips Hartwick late

The senior trio of Kelsie Moinzadeh (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) and Jessica Downin combined to score the game's only goal in the 89th minute, as SUNY Oneonta defeated city rival Hartwick 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action today on Red Dragon Field.

Lipshie started the play on a free kick after a Hartwick foul was called outside the box.  Instead on kicking, Lipshie passed the ball to Downin who carried the ball into the box on the right side and then took a shot that sailed across the goal hitting the inside of the left post.  On the carom, Moinzadeh got her head on the ball and it dropped over the line for the score.

The goal for Oneonta (7-8) was just a matter of time, as they controlled the second half of play generating multiple scoring chances.

Moinzadeh had a shot hit the crossbar in the 48th minute that was followed up with a shot just wide left by Julie Steinhauer (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) on the rebound.  A couple minutes later, Nicole Donadio (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) had a shot blocked before Christina Kornfeld (Mount Sinai/Miller Place) followed with a shot that sailed just over the goal.  In the 83rd minute, Downin was on the doorstep with a one-timer that was just saved by an outstretched hand by Cassandra Robataille before Steinhauer hit the crossbar on the follow.

During the first half of play, Hartwick (8-6-1) did hold a slight advantage in shots 7-5, but Oneonta keeper Jolene Krom (Sidney/Sidney) was up to the test making four of her five saves in the match during the opening 45 minutes.

Robataille finished the game with six saves for the Hawks.  The Red Dragons did earn 11 corner kicks in the match to only a pair for Hartwick.

Oneonta will host New Paltz on Saturday in a must win for a playoff spot in the SUNYAC tournament.  The Red Dragons are vying for one of the final spots with Buffalo State and Fredonia, who are at Potsdam and Plattsburgh this weekend.
