Men's soccer comes away with draw at Plattsburgh

The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team played 110 minutes of soccer today at Plattsburgh and managed a 1-1 draw with the Cardinals.  The tie was the second straight for Oneonta, as they are now 7-3-4 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play.

Both goals in today's match were recorded in the second half after the two squads went scoreless in the opening 45 minutes.

Plattsburgh (5-5-3, 3-2-1 SUNYAC) struck first in the 69th minute of the match.  Michael Grald tallied his first goal of the season with an assist from Taka Fukushima.

Oneonta held a decided advantage on the attack during the game and continued to pressure the Cardinals' third of the field.  The Red Dragons outshot Plattsburgh 25-13 in the match.

The Red Dragons finally broke through in the 75th minute on a goal by sophomore Roberto Ventura (Brentwood/Brentwood).  It was Ventura's fourth goal of the season and was assisted by freshman Jeremy Pantoni (Goshen/Goshen).

"We can't fault the effort," said Head Coach Iain Byrne.  "We're just not finishing our chances at the moment."

The Red Dragons posted five shots in the two overtime periods including one off the post in the 96th minute by junior Witman Hernandez (Huntington/Walt Whitman).

Senior keeper Nicholas Giordano (East Northport/Commack) recorded three saves today in goal for the Red Dragons.  Giordano is now 4-2-4 on the season.
