Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball upended by No. 13 Williams

The No. 13 ranked Williams College Ephs led from wire-to-wire tonight in handing the host SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team a 75-56 loss in non-conference action.  The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them to 11-8 overall while Williams leaves town 16-4 overall.

Senior Dwayne Freeman (Schenectady/Notre-Dame Bishop Gibbons) led Oneonta tonight with 18 points as the only player to reach double figures.  Freeman hit 6-of-15 shots from the floor including 2-of-5 from behind the arc.

The Ephs jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the opening four minutes of the game.  Bobby Casey and James Heskett made back-to-back threes for Williams to lead the charge.  Casey and Heskett led all scorers with 22 and 20 points in the contest.

Oneonta settled into the game and began chipping away at its deficit closing it to six points on a three-point play by freshman Jacob Rodriguez (Bronx/Mount St. Michael Academy).  Rodriguez finished the game with seven points and seven rebounds.

After Williams pushed its lead back to 10 points, the Red Dragons countered with a 10-2 run to pull within a basket at 24-22 with just over five minutes remaining in the half.  Freshman Darren Brown (Fair Haven, VT/Fair Haven Union) led the way with four points.

The Ephs closed the half on a 14-4 run to grab a 38-26 lead at the break.

Williams pushed its lead to 20 points in the first four minutes of the second half before Oneonta pushed back with a 16-3 burst that closed its deficit to seven points midway through the half.  Sophomore Kevin Mackin (Nanuet/Nanuet) started the run with a three and ended it with another three to get Oneonta to 49-42.

The Ephs quickly got its lead back into double-digits where it would remain for the rest of the game taking the 19-point road win.

Oneonta's advantage tonight was 16 offensive rebounds that led to 17 second chance points.  Unfortunately, they didn't have a solid shooting game overall that included 19-of-31 from the foul line.

Oneonta will begin its season ending three-week road trip this weekend out in Western New York against Fredonia and Buffalo State.
