Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving team had its first home meet of the season today, but had to settle for a loss to their Catskill Cup rival New Paltz Hawks 112-91. Overtaking the New Paltz Hawks on this day was hard to overcome with several pool records dropping in the 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard freestyle relay all secured by the visiting team.
The loss however was not without some great highlights for the Red Dragons. Oneonta's senior
Hannah Dari (Pomona/Clarkstown South) was a winner in the 1000 yard freestyle timing in at 11:13.63 over 23 seconds ahead of her teammate and runner-up freshman
Abby Miller (Oneonta/Oneonta). The 200 yard individual medley found a Red Dragon victor when junior
Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School) found the winner's circle with a time of 2:17.20. Another highlight for the women happened later in the day when freshman
Katherine London (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy) won the 500 yard freestyle securing a time of 5:27.71 just under six seconds ahead of the runner-up from New Paltz.Â
Later on, sophomore
Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern) found a win in the 100 yard breaststroke with a victor's time of 1:11.01 just .13 seconds ahead of the New Paltz runner-up.
In the last race of the day, the 200 yard freestyle relay squad of London, Miller, Llewellyn and Dari joined forces and secured a win for Oneonta topping out at 1:43.85.
The SUNY Oneonta women will get back in the pool and take on its arch rivals SUNY Cortland at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 3rd beginning at 1 PM in the Chase PE Pool on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
