The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team found itself behind by five points in the opening minute of the fourth quarter before turning it around with a 16-8 final 8:58 to defeat visiting SUNY Potsdam 56-53. Junior
Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) iced the game with 0.2 seconds left on the clock when she converted a pair of free throws. Frank was one of three players who finished in double figures for Oneonta (12-6, 7-4 SUNYAC) with 11 points. Frank also pulled down a game high 12 rebounds.

Oneonta trailed at each quarter in the game except for the end of the game. There were 12 lead changes in the contest the final change coming on a
Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) layup with three minutes remaining in the game. Â Hayes finished the game with six points and seven boards.

Neither team got off to a particularly great start in the game with the first period ending 9-7 in favor of Potsdam (1-17, 0-12 SUNYAC). A three-point play by Leah Giavatto broke a six all tie with just over one minute to go in the first quarter.

The two squads seemed to settle into the flow in the second quarter combining for 31 points. Oneonta pulled to within one point, 24-23, heading into halftime. The Red Dragons grabbed the lead early in the quarter on a three-pointer by sophomore
Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet). Amalbert would lead all scorers tonight with 15 points.

Oneonta came out of the break and appeared to grab a hold of the momentum scoring eight unanswered to begin the third quarter. The visitors kept chipping away and finished the quarter with six straight points, which carried into the final period with five more to take its largest lead of the game at 45-40.

Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) tied the game at 45 apiece before Oneonta took its final lead on the basket by Hayes.

Potsdam had a pair in double figures led by Carly Shear's 13 points off the bench. Nicole Hansen added 10 points.

Oneonta outrebounded Potsdam in the game 51-43 including 20 offensive rebounds. The Red Dragons turned 15 Bears turnovers into 14 points.

Oneonta will be home again tomorrow to face Plattsburgh at 1pm.
