Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) buried a three-pointer to break a 56 all tie with 1:22 remaining in the contest and then junior 
Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy) and sophomore 
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) made free throws in the final 14 seconds to secure a 62-58 win for the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball against New Paltz today at home.  The win for Oneonta raised its overall record to 10-4 and 5-2 in the SUNYAC while the loss for the Hawks put them at 7-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
 
Oneonta held a comfortable 33-24 lead at halftime.  They battled back in the opening quarter to grab a 16-13 lead after trailing early.  The Red Dragons closed the opening quarter with a 9-3 burst to take its lead into the second quarter.
 
In the second quarter, Oneonta opened up its largest lead of 14 points with a 9-0 run to go ahead 31-17.  Corso and freshman 
Maya Bernsley (Monroe/Monroe Woodbury) combined to score all nine points.  Bernsley came off the bench to score a season high seven points in the game.
 
New Paltz didn't go down without a fight putting themselves back in the game with mini runs during both the third and fourth quarters.  A 7-0 run early in the third quarter pulled the Hawks to within six points.  Paige Niemeyer led the charge with five points in the run.
 
In the fourth quarter, a 7-0 run and another six unanswered points by New Paltz tied the game at 54 apiece at the 2:56 mark.  The two teams traded baskets to keep the game knotted before Allrich's deep three gave Oneonta the lead for good.
 
Anken led Oneonta with 17 points followed by Corso's 11 points.  Junior 
Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) grabbed a game high 15 boards to go with eight points.
 
The Red Dragons' bench outscored the Hawks' reserves 23-11 in the game.  Oneonta also outrebounded New Paltz 46-28 including 14 offensive rebounds.
 
Marion Dietz led the visitors with 17 points followed by Lindsay Bettke who added 10 points.
 
Oneonta will travel to rival SUNY Cortland this Tuesday afternoon for a rematch of its contest from Jan. 5.  The contest is scheduled for a 4pm tip off.
