Baseball falls short in last game of Brockport series

SUNY Oneonta baseball drops the rubber match against SUNY Brockport 5-1. The Golden Eagles improved to 20-14 and 11-4 SUNYAC, and the Red Dragons fell to 14-16 and 5-10 SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles Jason Hellwig pitch 8.0 innings only allowing four hits and one unearned run to claim his third victory of the year (3-2).

The Red Dragons sophomore Takoda Sitar (Somers/Somers) started the game for Oneonta. Sitar pitched 7.0 innings while allowing 11 hits and five runs. He also struck out nine batter while only walking one. Sitar dropped to 1-3 with the loss. Sophomore RJ Lyman (Mohegan Lake/Walter Panas) came in the 8th inning to pitch 2.0 inning, he only allowed two hits and gave up no earned runs.

The Red Dragons lone run came in the 5th inning. With one out junior Chris Saitch (Kingston/Kingston) singled through the left side of the infield. The next batter Sage Cheren (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) hit a single, and with an error by the short stop on the play both Cheren and Saitch were able to advance a bag to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Junior Donald Geloso (Staten Island/Monsignor Farrell) hit a deep sacrifice fly ball to center field allowing both runners to advance a base.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Red Dragons Sean Mullins (Vestal/Vestal) threw out all four runners who tried to steal for the Golden Eagles. He did not allow a single passed ball while collecting 11 putouts and four assists.

For the Golden Eagles Joe Bender was 3-4 with three runs batted in. Paul Ludden was 3-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Red Dragons next game is tomorrow against Ithaca College at Damaschke Field at 4:00pm.
