The Red Dragons traveled to Utica to take on the Pioneers in a mid-week match up. The Red Dragons fell to the Pioneers, to drop to 11-14 on the year. The Pioneers improved to 12-11 and bring their home win streak to six.
Utica's
Griffin Baur earned his third collegiate victory as he struck out two in 5.0 innings of shutout ball. Baur allowed just three hits as he faced 18 batters.
The Pioneers Tim Quinlan got things going in the bottom of the first inning as he drove in
JT Ross to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
Jake Ryan singled home junior catcher
Ben Julian in the third to kick off the Pioneers' five-run inning.
Christian Tiffin added an RBI before Palmer drove in
Jake Ryan to hand the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.
JT Ross then reached on a fielder's choice, and an error by the Oneonta catcher scored Tiffin and
Jacob Gaboriault  as the Pioneers earned a 6-0 advantage through three full innings.
Utica tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning and took advantage of seven errors by the Red Dragons to take the 8-0 lead midway through the contest.Â
Oneonta was able to muster four runs in the seventh inning, junior
Dalton Beatty (Atwater/Atwater) led off the inning with a double. The next batter senior
Sage Cheren (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) walked, sophomore
Mickey Mullins (Vestal/Vestal) doubled down the left field line to score Beatty and move Cheren to third base. The next batter,
Michael Grudzinski (Islip/Islip) had a sacrifice fly ball to center to score Cheren to cut the Utica lead to 8-2. Senior
Casy Kies (Apalachin/Vestal) tripled to score Mullins to bring the score to 8-3. The last run scored by the Red Dragons was aided by a Utica error at third base.
M. Mullins led Oneonta with a 2-for-4 day at the dish.
The Red Dragons take on Southern Vermont on Thursday in Bennington, VT at 3:30pm.
