Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse falls late at Oswego

Oswego, NY - The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team couldn't hold its two-goal advantage late on the road at Oswego today falling 8-7 in SUNYAC action.  The Red Dragons had a 7-5 lead with 12:12 left in the fourth period before the Lakers scored three unanswered to grab the victory.  The loss was Oneonta's fourth, one-goal loss in the SUNYAC this season.

Oneonta (3-9, 0-4 SUNYAC) erased a 5-3 halftime deficit with four straight goals including the first two goals of the fourth period, which made the score 7-5.  Junior Nick Eiseman (Farmingville/Sachem East) and sophomore Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) tallied Oneonta's two goals in the third that left the game tied 5-5 entering the final period.  Panno added another goal to open the fourth followed by a goal from junior TJ Kilmetis (Hicksville/Hicksville) two minutes later.

Oswego's (5-7, 2-2 SUNYAC) offense and defense started clicking on all cylinders. The Laker defense did not allow a Red Dragon tally in the last 12 minutes of regulation while the offense scored three times to erase the two-goal deficit. Wyatt Russo made three saves in those final 12 minutes to keep Oneonta off the board while Adam Burlew caused a Red Dragon turnover on their final possession to seal the win.

Mark Niechcial's seventh goal of the season proved to be the difference maker, as he scored an unassisted goal with 3:51 on the clock to put Oswego ahead for good, 8-7. The first goal in the run was from Pat Kenneally from Zach Anderson on a man-up opportunity. Oswego's second goal during the span was Anderson's eighth of his senior campaign on an assist from Niechcial.

Panno paced the Oneonta attack with four goals and one assist.  Alec Solomito (Holtsville/Sachem East), Kilmetis and Eiseman each had one goal.

Niechcial and Anderson paced the Lakers with three points each on two goals and one assist apiece. Kenneally, Tim Schof and Jarrod Wilkom each had two-point outings. Kenneally's both came on goals, Schof scored once and helped on another while Wilkom played distributor for both his points. Rounding out the Oswego point scorers was Bobby Emerson with a goal.

Oneonta returns to action next Saturday on the road against Brockport beginning at 1pm.
