BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team faltered on the road today to Brockport 10-7. The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the SUNYAC while the Golden Eagles moved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The battle proved to be a tightly contested one, as the two teams would go tick-for-tack in the opening period of play. Oneonta struck first when junior
TJ Kilmetis (Hicksville/Hicksville) scored an unassisted goal at 10:41. Brockport then got back-to-back goals from Jake Recor and Mark Robinson to take a 2-1 lead with 3:08 to play. Junior
Alec Solomito (Holtsville/Sachem East) evened the score for the Red Dragons heading into the first break with a 2-2 tie.
Oneonta outscored the hosts in the second period 4-3 to grab a 6-5 lead at halftime. Sophomore
Jimmy Kickel (South Setauket/Ward Melville) scored twice while classmate
Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) and Kilmetis each tallied once in the frame. Kickel and Kilmetis also added an assist each.
Brockport took control in the third period taking an 8-6 lead into the final stanza. Oneonta's only goal in the final two periods came by Panno with 1:22 left in the third period.
Brockport edged their counterparts in nearly every category, including shots (42-30), shots on goal (24-15), ground balls (37-19) and face offs (19-2). The Green and Gold went 15-for-17 on the day in clears and forced 11 Oneonta turnovers.
Oneonta will play its final home game of the 2017 season on Tuesday when they play its rescheduled contest with Morrisville beginning at 4pm.
