SUNY Oneonta Baseball dropped a mid-week regional match up against RPI, 12-4. The Engineers improved to 12-13 and the Red Dragons fell to 9-11.
The Red Dragons first two runs of the game came in the second inning. Junior
Dalton Beatty (Atwater/Atwater) led off the inning with a single to left field. Senior
Sage Cheren (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) sacrifice bunted Beatty over to second base. On the next pitch, Beatty stole third base. Junior
Donald Geloso (Staten Island/Monsignor Farrell) drew a walk to put runners on first and third. The next batter senior
Michael Grudzinski (Islip/Islip) singled to center field to score Beatty. An with two outs, junior
Brandon Torres (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) singled to center field to score the final run of the inning to give the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom half of the second inning, RPI's Ethann Meister homered to lead off the inning to tie the game 2-2. In the third inning the Engineers put up another three runs which was to large of a deficit for the Red Dragons to overcome as they would go on to win 12-4.
Freshman Joseph Canonano got his second start of the season and pitched 2.2 innings allowing six hits and six earned runs. He got his first loss of the season falling to 1-1.
In the game both Torres and Beatty were 2 for 5. Beatty had two runs batted in and Torres had one run batted in.
The Red Dragons are back in action on Thursday, April 13
th at home on Damaschke Field at 4pm. Â
