The SUNY Oneonta softball team had its modest seven-game win streak snapped by the College of Saint Benedict this morning before bouncing back and pounding Juniata to finish its day 1-1. The Red Dragons are now 8-2 overall with one final day remaining in Florida.

College of Saint Benedict 6, Oneonta 2
Despite out-hitting Saint Benedict, 11-9, the Red Dragons committed five errors that led to four unearned runs in their defeat in game 1 today. Saint Benedict scored five of its six runs in the first two innings taking advantage of a couple of Oneonta miscues.

Oneonta scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, freshman
Kate Jencarelli (Roseland, NJ/West Essex ) hit a one-out triple before scoring on an RBI single off the bat of senior
Jennifer Brocco (Kingston/Kingston).

In the sixth, sophomore
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford) singled in front of Jencarelli who singled as well. Brocco then sacrificed both of them into scoring position where freshman
Brooke Corbett (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central/Delmar) then singled to drive in Del Genio.

Marlene Cuevas (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) each recorded two hits in the game.

Oneonta 11, Juniata 4
The Red Dragons pounded four Juniata pitchers for 17 hits including four by senior
Katie O'Gorman (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) who continued her torrid pace in the first week of the season. For O'Gorman, it was the second four-hit game this week as she his hitting well over .500.

Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the third inning, the bats came alive to the tune of six runs. O'Gorman started things with a leadoff double, which was followed by a single by Brocco. Both runners came around to score on a double by Sabatino. Cuevas then doubled in pinch runner
Jade Meehan (Halcottsville/Roxbury Central) with the third run. Two batters later, Del Genio hit a two-run home run to bring the total to five runs in the inning. The final run of the inning was scored by junior Robin Wentink who scored on an RBI single by
Kaycee Simpson (Blossvale/Camden Central).

The Red Dragons continued its onslaught in the bottom of the fourth plating three more runs to increase its lead 9-3. All three runs were scored with two outs on the board. Wentink smacked a double to drive in Del Genio while junior
Cori McFall (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) singled to drive in both Wentink and Jencarelli.

O'Gorman homered to left field for Oneonta's run in the fifth and McFall homered to the same place in the sixth for the final runs of the game for Oneonta.

Freshman
Julia Calabro (Wantagh/St. John the Baptist), who earlier in the week picked up her first collegiate save, earned her first collegiate win in relief of starter
Amanda Graziano (Riverhead/Riverhead). Calabro three 2-2/3 innings of one-hit ball striking out three.

Oneonta will play its final two games of its trip tomorrow against Smith College and Scranton University.
