The SUNY Oneonta softball team concluded its season opening week in Florida with a sweep of Smith College and Scranton today. The Red Dragons completed their week 10-2 overall after hitting and pitching well to start the year.

Highlighting today's victories was Head Coach Sara Headley earning her 300
th win against Smith College. Headley, now in her fourth season with Oneonta and 14
th overall as a head coach, is now 301-292-1 overall.

Oneonta 7, Smith College 5
Smith plated a run in the top of the first inning to get things started. The Red Dragons came back with a pair of runs in the second and one more in the third to grab a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second, freshman
Kate Jencarelli (Roseland, NJ/West Essex ) drilled a triple to right field to drive in sophomore
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford) with the first run of the inning. Jencarelli didn't stay on third for long, as
Jennifer Brocco (Kingston/Kingston) hit a sharp single up the middle to bring her home. Oneonta benefitted by an outfield error to score its run in the third inning.

In the fourth inning, Smith chased starter
Alyssa Bluethgen (Commack/Commack ) from the game after the first two batters reached base. Smith finished the inning with four runs to take a 5-3 lead.

The Red Dragons got one run back in the fifth on an RBI single to center field by Del Genio that scored senior
Killeen Martin (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) from second base.

Oneonta scored its eventual winning runs in the home half of the sixth when they plated three runs. Oneonta loaded the bases with one out and scored its first run of the inning on a walk to sophomore
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley) that brought in
Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke). After senior
Marlene Cuevas (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) reached on a fielder's choice, Del Genio smacked a double to drive in Sabatino and
Alyssa Garrison (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), who had a pinch-hit single.

Sabrina DeAngelis (East Meadow/Kellenberg Memorial) picked up her fourth win of the season in relief throwing four innings and striking out three batters.

Senior
Amanda Graziano (Riverhead/Riverhead) pitched a complete game, five-hit shutout to record her third win of the season. Cuevas and Del Genio led the offense with two hits apiece.

The Red Dragons scored two runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The big hit in the sixth was a two-run double by Brocco.
