The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team completed its trip to the Lone Star state last night with a 13-6 victory against Southwestern University. The win for the Red Dragons evened its overall record at 2-2 after recording its second straight victory.

Leading the attack for the Red Dragons was sophomore
Jimmy Kickel (South Setauket/Ward Melville) and juniors
Hunter DeLuca (Medford/Patchogue Medford) and
Alec Solomito (Holtsville/Sachem East) who each recorded five points in the contest. Kickel pumped in four goals while DeLuca and Solomito each added three goals.

Oneonta grabbed a 3-0 lead after the first period including Kickel's first two goals of the game. DeLuca assisted on the second goal while Solomito finished the scoring with a goal at 6:01.

The two teams played even in the second period scoring two goals each. Kickel netted his third of the game off an assist by sophomore
Zachary Harned (Selden/Newfield ) to give the Red Dragons a 4-1 lead. DeLuca gave Oneonta a 5-1 advantage with a man-up goal assisted by Solomito.

The Red Dragons took control in the third period with four goals to stretch its lead to 9-2. Kickel got things going with an unassisted goal at 12:06. Freshman
Ben Weir (Riverhead/Riverhead), Solomito and junior
Richie Denike (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) tallied for Oneonta in the last 2:53 of the period to cap the scoring.

The two squads combine for eight goals in the final stanza for the final score of 13-6.

Sophomore goalie
Andrew Helfman (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) recorded 11 saves in the game to pick up his second win of the season.

Oneonta is scheduled to be in action again next Wednesday at FDU-Florham beginning at 4pm.
