Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse defeats FDU-Florham for third straight win

The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team traveled south to New Jersey this morning to play its rescheduled contest with FDU-Florham and came away with an 11-8 victory.  The Red Dragons never trailed as they picked up their third straight win after beginning the season 0-2.

Junior TJ Kilmetis (Hicksville/Hicksville) led the Oneonta attack today netting five goals including the game-winner early in the fourth period.  Classmates Alec Solomito (Holtsville/Sachem East) and Ryan Curley (Manorille/Eastport South Manor) each added three points.

Kilmetis got things rolling for Oneonta in the first period scoring his first two goals giving the Red Dragons an early lead.  FDU (4-2) scored its only goal of the first half midway through the period.

Solomito and Kilmetis each scored a goal in the second period to extend Oneonta's lead to 4-1.  The Red Dragons took its three-goal and a 17-9 advantage in shots into the intermission.

Oneonta completely dominated the third period netting four goals to take a commanding 8-2 lead into the final period.  After a man-up goal by Jimmy Kickel (South Setauket/Ward Melville), Curley scored back-to-back before Brendan Callahan (Miller Place/Miller Place) capped the four unanswered with his third goal of the season.

The final period was pretty wide open with the two teams combining for nine goals six of them going to FDU.  Kilmetis sandwiched his final two goals around a pair from FDU to give Oneonta a 10-4 lead with 10:21 remaining.  Junior Hunter DeLuca (Medford/Patchogue Medford) scored a man-up goal two minutes later to cap the scoring for the Red Dragons.  FDU made a final run, but the game was already decided.

Sophomore goalie Andrew Helfman (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) recorded 11 saves for Oneonta today to pick up his third win of the season.

Oneonta is scheduled to play again on Wednesday when they travel to nationally ranked Ithaca College.
