Women's basketball rolls past Buffalo State 63-47

Tonight's SUNYAC contest between SUNY Oneonta and Buffalo State was decided early, as the host Red Dragons raced out to a 16-5 lead after one quarter en route to a lopsided 63-47 victory.  The win for Oneonta (13-7, 10-3 SUNYAC) was its sixth straight and eighth win in the last nine games.
 
Ten different players registered points tonight for Oneonta led by senior Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan)' nine points.  Classmate Sara DiPasquale (Buffalo, NY/Cardinal O'Hara) added eight points while junior Samantha Bouchard (Commack/Commack) came off the bench to score a season high eight points.
 
The Red Dragons dominated in every aspect of the game leading 32-13 at halftime.  Oneonta held the Bengals to under 20 percent shooting in the opening half.
 
Senior Kathryn Polletta (Ossining/Ossining) buried a 3-pointer to give the Red Dragons an 11-point advantage with 39 seconds left in the 1st quarter. Oneonta created more momentum and went on a 10-point run, that ended the 1st quarter at 16-5.
 
The Red Dragons carried a 19-point lead going into the half, 32-13.  At one point in the first half, Oneonta scored 21 consecutive points to open up a 27-5 lead.
 
The Bengals did make a run at Oneonta to start the third period scoring the first 11 points of the quarter.  A Jasmine Shirley layup at 3:26 cut Oneonta's lead to 16 points at 40-24.
 
The Red Dragons closed the door at the end of third and beginning of the fourth period with 10 unanswered capped by a Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) layup.
 
Buffalo State was led by Caleh McLean's 16 points.  Princella McCullough added 10 points and 11 boards.
 
The Red Dragons will be home again tomorrow at 4pm against the Fredonia Blue Devils.
