Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Frankie Kelly scores 1,000th point; Men's basketball runs past Potsdam

Graduate student Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) scored his 1,000th point tonight to highlight the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball lopsided victory against SUNY Potsdam tonight 93-63.  Kelly scored 15 points while adding 11 assists in the contest.  He becomes the 13th men's player to reach 1,000 points and the second this season, as earlier senior Lawrence Coleman (Croton on the Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) eclipsed the milestone.

Oneonta (15-9, 12-5 SUNYAC) started fast in tonight's game running out to a 16-4 lead in the opening four minutes.  Sophomore Dwayne Freeman (Schenectady/Notre-Dame Bishop Gibbons) buried a pair of threes while senior Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) added a couple of dunks during the run.

Oneonta continued to pour it on building a 28-10 lead with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half.  Another 11-0 spurt put the Red Dragons ahead 44-16 at the 5:50 mark.  The run was capped by back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Kevin Mackin (Nanuet/Nanuet).

Oneonta shot an even 50 percent in the game and converted 17-of-19 free throws.  They also made 10 shots from behind the arc led by Freeman, who had three.  Freeman was one of five players in double figures with 13 points.

Coleman led all scorers in the game with 20 points followed by Kelly.  Mackin scored 13 points off the bench and McElroy contributed 11 points.

Kelly's 1,000 point came in the second half on a layup as part of a three-point play, which he completed to make the score 76-48.

Potsdam (2-22, 1-16 SUNYAC) had three players in double figures led by Dante Langley's 17 points.  Jaquan Thomas added 15 points off the bench and Danny Delsol-Lowry contributed 10 points.

Oneonta will play again tomorrow against Plattsburgh at 2pm in the Dewar Arena.
