The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team ran into a hot shooting Lycoming squad today in the championship game of the Dutch Burch Tournament hosted by Lycoming. The hosts shot 60 percent from the field en route to taking a 108-86 victory and handing the Red Dragons its first loss of the season.
Â
Junior
Matthew Boyd (Hempstead/Half Hollow Hills East) was Oneonta's lone All-Tournament selection after posting 10 points in today's game. Last night, Boyd drained the game-winning shot with three seconds left to lead the Red Dragons to a 66-64 win against DeSales.
Â
Oneonta (2-1) never led in today's contest tying the score at 2-2 in the opening minute of the game. The Red Dragons trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, but made a late run in the closing minutes of the half to close the gap to three points entering halftime. Sophomore
Kevin Mackin (Nanuet/Nanuet) buried a three-pointer as time was expiring to close the deficit to 51-48. Mackin was one of six players in double figures today scoring 10 points.
Â
Oneonta kept it close early in the second half trailing by only a bucket at 64-62 after a layup by sophomore
Carson Jacobs (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) at 14:26. Jacobs finished with six points and four boards in nine minutes of action.
Â
A 10-2 spurt by Lycoming (3-0) drove its lead back to double digits at 74-64. Oneonta cut the lead to single digits on two occasions, but could never get its deficit under 10 points over the final six minutes of the game.
Â
Joining Mackin and Boyd in double figures today were senior
Dwayne Freeman (Schenectady/Notre-Dame Bishop Gibbons) (18), sophomore
Ian Schultz (Clifton Park/CBA) (13), sophomore
Harrison Deegan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) (11) and freshman
Andres Rivera (Bronx/Walton) (10). Schultz also added a team high nine boards to go with a block and a steal.

Oneonta will travel to Albany on Monday night to face the University of Albany in an exhibition game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
