New Paltz, NY. The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team bowed out of the SUNYAC tournament in the first round after a four set loss to SUNY New Paltz, 3-1. The Red Dragons capped off their season with a 14-18 record and finished regular season SUNYAC play 4-6. The Hawks with their victory will head to Brockport to take on Brockport in the semifinals.
In the match, the Red Dragons senior
Melissa Voyer (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) led the team with 11 kills and six blocks for a total of 14.5 points. Voyer capped her career at Oneonta with a career high 271 kills. Senior
Sara Feldman (Smithtown/Smithtown East) had eight kills and two digs in the match. Sophomore
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) had 32 assists to finish the season with a total of 1094 assists on the season. Classmate
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had a team high 14 digs and she also assisted on two kills.
The Red Dragons lone set victory came in the third set. With the Red Dragons trailing 23-24, Feldman's attack landed to tie the game at 24 and give the serve to Oneonta. Delany Dower stepped up and served an ace to give the advantage to Oneonta 25-24. After swapping a point with New Paltz on kills, with the scored 25-25
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) blocked an attack by New Paltz to take the advantage 26-25. Shortly after an attack error by New Paltz, Voyer put the set away on a kill that was set up by Fowler.
