Oswego, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving team opened up the 2017-18 campaign with a loss to its SUNYAC foe the Oswego Lakers by a score of 128-115. Even with the loss, the Red Dragons had success in many events.
The opening event was the first of several wins for the Oneonta. In the 200 yard medley relay, sophomore
Nicole Lapinski (Pine Push/Pine Bush), sophomore
Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern), junior
Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School) and freshman
Katherine London (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy) took the winner's position securing a time of 1:55.58. London won her first individual collegiate victory in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.77 as she secured the victory almost three seconds ahead of the Oswego runner-up. She followed that win with a triumph in the 100 yard freestyle (55.96). Llewellyn was also a victor in the 200 yard individual medley. Carey found a win in the 100 yard breaststroke securing a winning time of 1:11.50.
Freshman
Abby Miller (Oneonta/Oneonta) had her first collegiate win taking the winner's position in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:39.58. Later she also had success in the 500 yard freestyle and that time was 5:39.09.
The women's swimming and diving team prepare for a meet against The College of St. Rose on Saturday, November 4th beginning at 1 PM. That event will take place at RPI.
