MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team traveled to Morrisville today to face the Mustangs in a non-conference match and came away with a 2-0 victory to collect its seventh straight win and third by shutout.
The offensive star for Oneonta (11-1-1) was sophomore
Witman Hernandez (Huntington/Walt Whitman) scoring both goals for the Red Dragons in the match. The two scores gave Hernandez six goals on the season.
Hernandez's first goal came in the 24
th minute after he was in the right place to knock home a deflection of a shot by freshman
Roberto Ventura (Brentwood/Brentwood).
Hernandez added another goal in the 55
th minute with a one-touch off a chip over the defense by senior
Austin Hughes (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa).
Junior
Nick Lindovski (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) got the start in goal for the Red Dragons today and made a pair of saves to pick up his first win and shutout of the season. Morrisville keeper Cody Gaines registered the loss despite a nine save effort for a second straight contest.
Oneonta now looks ahead to its road trip out to western New York next weekend where they will play at Fredonia and Buffalo State to conclude its SUNYAC schedule. The Red Dragons clinched a playoff spot yesterday with its win against New Paltz, but need to win both games to secure a bye in the first round.
