Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Adams has career night; Women's basketball pulls out win at Oswego

Senior Cara Adams sets three-point mark

Senior Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) scored a career high 23 points tonight to lead the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team to a 60-58 victory at Oswego.  The win snapped a four-game skid for the Red Dragons as they move to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the SUNYAC.  Adams scored 16 of her game high 23 points in the final two periods to lead a second half comeback by the Red Dragons.

In the process of her 23-point night, Adams made 5-of-9 three pointers to give her 172 for her career, which broke the nearly 20-year old program record set by Kristina Shackel in 1998.

The game was close throughout with neither team gaining more than a six-point lead.  Oneonta held its six-point lead in the first period and Oswego (3-8, 1-4 SUNYAC) held its largest lead of five points in the third period.  The lead changed nine times and was tied on six occasions.

Trailing by three points entering the fourth period, Adams tied the game and then gave Oneonta a three-point lead with successive threes.  The Lakers countered with five unanswered to regain the lead back at 47-47 before a layup by junior Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring/Haldane) tied the game once again at the 7:15 mark.

The last time the score was tied was at 51 with 3:39 remaining.  Mary Mazzella converted a pair of free throws for Oswego.  Mazzella led the Lakers with 20 points in the contest.

Down the stretch, Adams buried two big three-pointers while also making a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left on the clock.  Mazzella made a layup with five seconds to go to get the Lakers to with one point.  After Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy) made 1-of-2 free throws, Oswego had one last three to win the game, but did not make it as time expired.

Joining Adams in double figures tonight was classmate Sara DiPasquale (Buffalo, NY/Cardinal O'Hara) who scored 10 points to go with nine boards.

Oneonta will play at rival Cortland tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4pm.
