Cortland, NY  - The SUNY Oneonta women's  swimming & diving team lost the pool battle of the Red Dragons convincingly at Cortland 174-122.  Despite the loss, there were several highlights for the women.
The day started off great for Oneonta when in the 200 yard medley relay the team of sophomore
Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School), senior
Nicole DiFilippo (Danville,PA/Danville ), freshman
Nicole Lapinski (Pine Push/Pine Bush) and senior
Sarah Greco (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) took top honors with a time of 1:54.49 edging out their Cortland foe by just over one second. DiFilippo recorded a win with a time of 1:11.65 in the 100 yard breaststroke with her teammate freshman
Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern) finishing in the runner-up spot, Carey did get a win of her own later in the afternoon with a victory in the 200 yard breaststroke timing in at 2:36.67 less than four seconds ahead of her trailer from Cortland. Llewellyn also scored a win in the 200 yard butterfly scoring a time of 2:15.17 more than five seconds ahead of the Cortland runner-up. Llewellyn came back later in the 23rd event of the day as she was also victorious in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.23 more than two seconds ahead of the Cortland second place finisher.
Junior
Kylie Loforte (Farmington/Canandaigua Academy ) scored her first win on the day in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.78 just .58 seconds ahead of the Cortland second place finisher. The 500 yard freestyle was also kind to Loforte as she scored a victory there with a time of 5:30.15 more than 12 seconds ahead of the Cortland runner-up held in event number 21.
The women's swimming and diving team will now prepare for the SUNYAC Championships beginning on February 16th at Erie Community College.
