Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Coleman's double-double leads men's basketball to road win at Fredonia

The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team bounced back from last night's set back to claim a road win at Fredonia today 70-62.  Senior Lawrence Coleman (Croton on the Hudson/Hendrick Hudson), who last night eclipsed 1,000 career points, recorded his fourth straight double-double and ninth overall this season finishing with 19 points and a game high 12 rebounds.  Classmate Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) led all scorers in the contest with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting.

Oneonta (10-7, 7-3 SUNYAC) carried a 32-26 lead into halftime.  McElroy and Coleman combined to score 23 of Oneonta's first half points.  The Red Dragons only trailed for a short time in the opening half before regaining the lead at 9-8 en route to the six-point lead at the intermission.

Fredonia (8-10, 5-6 SUNYAC) came out of the break and 12-6 run in the first six minutes capped by a jumper by Nico Johnson that tied the game at 38 apiece.  The two teams would battle closely over the next six minutes and a jumper by McElroy tied the game for the last time at 49 apiece.

The Red Dragons scored 10 unanswered points over the next three minutes to seize control of the contest.  Four different players contributed to the spurt.

Oneonta never allowed the Blue Devils to get any closer than eight points the rest of the way in securing the eight-point victory.

The Red Dragons finished the game shooting an even 50 percent (21-42) while holding a 36-30 advantage on the boards.

Oneonta will travel to the North Country next weekend to face Plattsburgh on Friday night and SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon.
