Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer comes up short against Ithaca College

ITHACA, N.Y. – In an early season matchup between two nationally ranked squads, it was No. 23 Ithaca College that held off No. 24 SUNY Oneonta 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action today at Ithaca's Carp Wood Field.  With the win, Ithaca pushed its season opening win streak to three while the Red Dragons fall to 1-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first half of play, both teams looked to set the tempo over the final 45 minutes of action.  Ithaca's offense, which had been outshot in the first half, 6-4, began to build momentum after a pair of shots deep in the Oneonta zone.

In the 56th minute, Ithaca's Jocelyn Ravesi put the ball in the back of the net to give the Bombers the only goal they would need today.  She received a pass from Megan Nash and ran it up the sideline before unleashing a shot into the top corner of the cage.  It was Ravesi's third goal in her last two games.

Oneonta had its best opportunity in the final seconds of the game, as its front line broke free and blasted a shot to the far side of the cage, but Ithaca net minder Stacey DiGiorgio dove and turned the shot aside to preserve the shutout win.

The Bombers finished the game with an 18-12 shot advantage including a 14-6 difference in the second half.  Oneonta keeper Emilie Mull (Marcy/Whitesboro) made six saves in the match for the Red Dragons.

DiGiorgio earned her third win of the season and moved to 3-0-0 after making six saves in 90 minutes of play.

Next up for Oneonta is the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles on Saturday at 1pm in its opening contest of the 2016 Oneonta Mayor's Cup Tournament co-hosted by Oneonta and Hartwick.  Saturday's match will be at Hartwick while Oneonta's match against Ursinus will be on Red Dragon Field Sunday at Noon.
