Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goal sinks Men's Soccer at Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ – For a second consecutive game, a goal late in the game by the opponents was the difference for the No. 3 SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team.  Today, it was a header by Rowan University back Will Sjaatad on a free kick that gave the Profs a 1-0 victory on the final day of the Gilmore Alumni Classic hosted by Rowan.

Sjaastad headed in a free kick hit by midfielder Jake Conners with 8:59 remaining. Conners struck the ball from near midfield.

"That was another tough loss against a very good Rowan squad," said Head Coach Iain Byrne.  We had three freshman making their debuts in the starting lineup this weekend and they stood tall."

Making his debut in goal for Oneonta (0-2) was freshman Ryan Wilson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington).  Wilson collected four saves in his first collegiate match.  Wilson's counterpart, Kyle Dennis, came up with two saves today.

Rowan held a 9-7 advantage in shots for the match.  The Profs earned two corner kicks to one for Oneonta.

In the match, Rowan played the final 46:16 a man down after a red card was issued.

Oneonta will return to action this Friday when they play its home opener on the first day of the Oneonta Mayor's Cup Tournament.  The Red Dragons will face No. 25 Dickinson at 4pm.
