GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 20 University of Puget Sound women's soccer team scored in the 16th minute and added another goal in the second half to top No. 24 Oneonta 2-0 in the third game of the William Smith Invitational this afternoon on Cozzens Field.
Just 15:43 into the game, Puget Sound took a 1-0 lead when Lura Morton was moving in from the right corner. She sent her cross right out in front of the goal and Grayson Williams-Krebs tipped it in.
Oneonta's best scoring chance of the first half came after a corner kick 2:16 into the match.
Laura Rolston (New City/Clarkstown South) put a header on goal, but it was cleared away by a Puget Sound defender.
The Loggers added to their lead in the 88th minute when Jacquelyn Anderson tapped a pass from the left side to Elizabeth McGraw who fired her shot into the left side of the goal.
Prior to the goal, with 7:12 left in the game, the Red Dragons had a scoring chance when Rolston blasted a shot on goal from about 30 yards out, but Puget Sound goalie Lauren Thomas was there to make the stop.
Thomas finished with four saves. Sophomore
Emilie Mull (Marcy/Whitesboro) made three saves in goal for Oneonta.
The Red Dragons finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots. Each team earned three corners.
Oneonta will be at Ithaca College on Wednesday for a match beginning at 4pm.
