Box Score 3 The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team opened up SUNYAC pool play this weekend in Brockport, NY. The Red Dragons would come out and sweep the Buffalo State Bengals 3-0 on Friday. On Saturday the Red Dragons would split, beating Cortland and dropping a match to Brockport. The Red Dragons improved to 4-11 and 2-1 in the SUNYAC on the weekend.
In the first match, the Red Dragons would come out on fire winning 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20. The key to the Red Dragons success was in the attack of
Erika Corbin (Kirkwood/Windsor) who had 11 kills with a .563 kill percentage. Senior
Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport) added 10 kills and a team high 16 digs. The Red Dragons as a team out hit the Bengals, .305 to .115.
The next day Oneonta would take on a hot Brockport team. The Golden Eagles would finish the weekend 15-2 and 3-0 in SUNYAC play. Brockport would win in a straight set 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18. For the Red Dragons senior
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) would have 12 assists and her sister freshman
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) would have 17 digs.
In the final match of the opening weekend, the Red Dragons would take down Cortland in four sets. Oneonta would drop the first set 25-14, but would bounce back to take the next three sets and the victory 25-15, 25-22 and 25-20. In the match J. Pelaccio would have a match high 36 assists, and Carpluk would have 15 kills.
On the weekend, Carpluk would have a team high 28 kills with 40 digs for 31.5 points. J. Pelaccio would lead the team in assists with 63, and she would also add three service aces.
Kassidy Kievit (Cincinnatus/Cincinnatus Central) had eight blocks and 23 kills for the Red Dragons.
The Red Dragons take on University of Scranton in their first home match of the year on Wednesday, September 28
th at 6pm in the Alumni Field House.
