Scranton, PA and Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon women's tennis team swept their weekend foes by going on the road on Friday, September 16
th and defeating the University of Scranton Royals 6-3. After arriving back to Oneonta at midnight the Red Dragon's women's tennis team scored the second victory in successive days by upending the SUNY Oswego Lakers in a lopsided affair shutting them out 9-0.
 Against the Scranton Royals the Red Dragons came out a little flat and dropped the doubles competition 2-1 with the only victory coming from sophomore
Faith Haedrich (Islip/Islip) and junior
Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) playing third doubles scoring an impressive 8-2 victory. Down 2-1 before singles play began the Red Dragons regrouped and won five out of the singles matches contested and closed out the Royals 6-3 in impressive fashion. Senior
Alana Green (Pittsford/Pittsford) was triumphant at number one with a 6-4, 6-1 battle.  In the second position freshman Jacqueline Guidice was very solid and won a tight first set 6-3 and then cruised to a win by clinching the second set 6-1. Haedrich, senior
Kayla Houle (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) and Felice at flights four, five and six were also victors and the team win brought the Red Dragons to a 3-1 start and a win over the University of Scranton Royals after losing to them twice in a row over successive years.
Arriving back in Oneonta late on Friday evening did not slow the Red Dragons down and played their SUNY Athletic Conference opponent which found Oneonta on the plus side of a 9-0 shutout. In doubles Green and Guidice were never in any trouble in the top spot and secured an 8-2 double win for their team. Houle and junior Kaitlin Ferrara were impressive gaining their first win at the number two flight 8-2 while Felice and Haedrich won their second in a row in the third doubles flight with a score of 8-3. Up 3-0 going into the singles stanza the Red Dragons were overwhelming and lost a total of only 11 games winning all six matches which completed the shutout allowing the Red Dragons to start their season with a very imposing 4-1 mark.
In their next match Red Dragon women's tennis team welcomes the defending SUNY Athletic Conference Champions to the Heissan Tennis Courts on Tuesday, September 20
th at 4:00 PM on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.Â
