Â
Lee opened the scoring 42 seconds into the game and, after freshman
Cara Zanta (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville Senior) got the Red Dragons on the board at 27:34, Lee scored again after taking a feed from senior forward Erin Down and cutting in front of the Oneonta cage for a quick shot at 25:37.
Â
Freshman
Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) tied the game at two goals apiece with an assist from sophomore
Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) at 23:17, but Geneseo would pull away with a 6-1 spurt to take a 8-3 lead at 6:15. With 13:04 on the clock, sophomore midfielder Erin Cregan got open for a nice feed from Felix in front of the crease and stuck a shot in the back of the net.
Â
Oneonta senior attack
Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) scored the first of her two goals on the day off a Geneseo turnover in its own end at 11:06, but the Knights scored three more goals to build the five-goal edge. Felix scored her 99th career goal on a hard shot from close range at 8:41, before sophomore attack Hannah Millich (6:46) dodged through the Red Dragon defense for a hard-fought goal and Lee (6:15) cut open for a scoring feed from Felix to finish the run with tallies 31 seconds apart.
Â
Oneonta closed the first half with the first of two tallies in the game by Casey to pull within four, 8-4, after 30:00 of play.
Â
Clark and Zanta notched back-to-back tallies for the Red Dragons to start the second half as the visitors pulled within two, 8-6, with 24:45 on the clock.
Â
Following an Oneonta foul inside the eight-meter arc with 19:27 remaining in regulation, Cregan hit an open junior attack Kathleen DePillo on the Red Dragon crease for a goal after the re-start to retake a three-goal edge.
Â
The Geneseo defense limited the Red Dragons to one goal over the final 24:45 of regulation to hold on for the two-goal margin of victory. Senior goalie Claudia Coleates was credited with five saves to preserve the victory. Oneonta freshman
Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) recorded 11 saves in the game.
