Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse falls to RPI 16-6

TROY, N.Y. - Junior Matt Hall scored four first half goals and Breanainn McNeally tallied three goals and an assist to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team to its sixth consecutive win, a 16-6 victory over SUNY Oneonta in a non-league game at East Campus Stadium.

RPI jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 12:15 of the first half when senior defenseman John Phillips scored from midfield into a cage vacated by a riding goalie.  Hall scored his first of the game 2:09 later for a 2-0 lead.

Oneonta evened the score at 2-2 with a man-up goal by Jimmy Kickel at 8:17 and an even strength marker from John Shea (Huntington/Huntington) 4:08 later.

The Engineers took control of the game when Hall scored the next three goals.  He scored two unassisted goals just 28 seconds apart for a 4-2 lead and then tallied on a man-up at 12:35 of the second for a three-goal margin.

Connor Coyle (Centerport/Harborfields) notched his 14th of the season for the Red Dragons just over a minute later, but McNeally and Patrick Finn connected on a bang-bang play from behind the cage to the front for a 6-3 margin with 4:27 left in the half.  The Engineers would close the second quarter with three unanswered to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.

Gilman and McNeally scored the first two goals of the second half to give RPI an 11-3 lead.  Oneonta's Daniel King (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) scored two of the game's next three goals and the visitors trailed 12-5 after three quarters.

RPI built on its lead with four goals in the fourth quarter, by four different players, while freshman James Kickel (South Setauket/Ward Melville) scored his second of the contest for the Red Dragons for their final tally of the game.

Senior Ryan Adler (Smithtown/Smithtown West) made seven saves in 53 minutes of action for Oneonta today.  David Gibbs made eight saves for the hosts.

Oneonta will be at home this Saturday to face Oswego in a SUNYAC contest beginning at 2:30pm.
