Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon women's tennis team hosted its first spring match of the non-championship season today. Home cooking was just what the Red Dragon women needed as they secured a 7-2 team win against a formidable foe in the RIT Tigers. The triumph for the Red Dragon's made it three out of the last four in the win column for the women.
Doubles play was where the Red Dragons made a big statement today in securing all three doubles flights. The first doubles team of senior
Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) and junior
Alana Green (Pittsford/Pittsford) made it four wins in a row as they played a tight match. Their mental toughness and strategic synergy made them victors again today with an 8-6 win. The doubles tandem in the second flight was junior
Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) and senior
Samantha Butcher (Sidney/Sidney Central) and they made it two wins out of their last three contests as they were not in jeopardy piecing together an 8-3 victory. Freshman
Faith Haedrich (Islip/Islip) and sophomore
Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) got their fourth win of the spring doubling up their RIT opponent 8-4.
In singles, No. 2 Spencer was a bit sluggish as she opened her match going down 0-4. She then won 12 out of the last 14 games and clinched her fifth singles win of the spring. Senior
Samantha Butcher (Sidney/Sidney Central) was her consistent self today carving out a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Santarsiero had little trouble in dismantling her foe as she brought home a 6-0, 6-2 win in the fifth position. Freshman
Gabriella Dybas (Amsterdam /Amsterdam) is settling into the sixth spot since breaking into the starting lineup earlier this spring. Today Dybas was deliberate in taking the win 7-6, 6-2 win to earn her third victory of the spring season.
